Buying My Books

George sent in the following question about my Mac OS X Command Line book:

Kirk, it’s great to see that this work has found a publisher. When last I inquired, it was languishing in the File Cabinet of Uncertain Futures.

My question is this: Is there a method of purchase which increases your own gain, or are they pretty much the same from the royalty check point of view?
George, thanks for asking. Yes, the book has had a somewhat convuluted life so far. But it’s finally made it to print thanks to the fine people at Sybex.

As to “increasing my gain”, the best way is to use the Amazon links I provide on my site. I get 7.5% from Amazon, which helps pay for my book, music and movie habit. (Don’t think that there’s a lot of money in this; I’ve rarely made more than $50 a quarter from these links.) But that amount is not far from what I get from the publisher in royalties… Go figure.

So, if you want to help me out, click away! And I appreciate the question as well!

Dang, wish I had of read this yesterday. I bought your book through
Amazon.ca, but didn’t click through your link.

Don’t worry – I don’t have an affiliate account with the CA store.

Thanks for buying the book anyway!
