Have You Ever Thought of Adding a NAS to Your Network?
A NAS – or network attached storage device – is a great adjunct to a network small or large. In my latest Macworld article, I look at how you can integrate one into your network, and how you can benefit from one.
“As more homes get multiple computers, more homes need some type of network storage. With network storage, you can share music files, videos, and photos among machines; send files back and forth; and implement a backup strategy.”

Hi Kirk,
I’ve bookmarked your column about NAS storage and have a question. We
have three Leopard-based Macs on our local network. We have a 1TB time
capsule, but want to add an NAS. Yes, we have a MobileMe account.
We’re looking at 2 different, yet similar solutions: The Drobo 4TB or the
Buffalo LinkStation Quad. I noticed that you didn’t review either product in
your column. So, what do you think of either – or is there another option we
should consider?
My column wasn’t meant to be an exhaustive review, but rather a presentation
of the concept. I’m told the Drobo is good, but I don’t know if it supports AFP;
that’s probably the most important thing to check. Look around on forums
where people discuss these things to find out more about different models.
