How Many Books are Too Many?

I’m a book addict – I admit it. I read a lot. I probably read two or three books a week, though, when reading longer books, I may spend a week or more on a single title. My latest discovery is Herman Melville, and have read about two-thirds of his writings in the past five weeks, in the attractive Library of America editions.
So when a friend pointed this out to me, my neurons began salivating: The Penguin Classics Library Complete Collection. Wow! The entire Penguin Classics series, a total of 1,082 books, for a “mere” $8,000! Only 700 pounds of books! Sure, I have a few of them, but what a buy that would be…Naturally, I couldn’t ever spend that kind of money; this is something you either buy because you are very rich, or someone who is very rich buys it for you. But what joy that would be, reading through these books whenever I want. Being able to pick and choose from among the greatest classics of literature any time, without having to wait for orders to be delivered in the mail. And what joy to simply be able to browse through the collection, looking at all the astounding literature.
At the rate I read – let’s say two a week – I’d have over ten years of reading. Ten years… If only I could retire and buy this set, I’d be in literary heaven.
If any of you are rich, and want to support my habit, you know what to get me. Or even if you buy it using my click-through link above, that’d be enough for me to feed my habit for a while… Wow, all those books…

Have you tried to download “Free Books” for your iPad? they have all the classics you could ever hope to read. Also I can recommend Stanza both for your ipod touch and iPad. They have some great selections of books all for free.
