Amazon’s Fire TV is now available in the UK. This Apple TV competitor offers streaming of content from Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Spotify and others.
About the same size as an Apple TV, the main interest for me is the ability to stream Amazon Prime Instant Video, which is included as part of the Amazon Prime package. Since Amazon UK has offered free streaming video, I’ve only used it a few times, since the only way to access it was from a Mac or iOS device, streaming AirPlay through my Apple TV. I don’t mind paying for a box that can do this, though I’d much rather that this be included as an app on the Apple TV. (But I know we’ll never see that.)
Amazon is offering the device for £49 through Monday 8 September to Amazon Prime members; the regular retail price is £79. So if you did plan to get one, grab it now. It’s on pre-order, and will ship October 23.
