In an earlier article, I pointed out that there’s a quick way to type .com, even though the .com button is missing from the iOS 7 keyboard. Here are two more quick typing tricks for iOS.
Quickly Type Capital Letters in OS 7
Normally, to type a capital letter in iOS – unless you’re at the beginning of a sentence, when the “cap lock” is on – you have to tap the caps key, then tap the letter you want to type. But there’s a simpler way. Tap and hold the caps key, slide your finger to the letter you want to type, then release it.
Quickly Type Punctuation in iOS 7
Just as you can tap-and-hold-and-slide starting with the caps key, you can do the same with the 123 key, that takes you to the number and punctuation keyboard in iOS 7. Tap the 123 button, hold it, then drag to the number or symbol you want to type, then release it.
You’ll notice that for certain symbols, if you wait a half-second, a popup gives you options for related symbols. Below, you can see a quick way to access different types of quotes, such as smart quotes, and guillemets «».
Try tap-hold-swipe on other keys to see what symbols they can type in this same manner.
