If you sync an iOS device with iTunes, you’ll often find yourself wanting to check or uncheck items to be synced. For example, let’s say you have a lot of ebooks; you may want to add them to your iPad, or remove a bunch that you’ve read. You may think the only way is to click each check box next to each book, but there’s an easier way.
Click on a book cover, until you see a blue highlight around it.
Next, press the space bar; this will uncheck or check the box next to the book’s title. To move to the next book, press the right arrow key. You can then press the space bar again to check or uncheck the book.
You can use all four arrow keys to navigate in this window. You’ll find that it only takes a few seconds to arrow through your books, press the space bar, and check or uncheck whichever ones you want.
To check or uncheck all of your books, press and hold the Command key, and check a book’s checkbox.
This works in the Books screen, as well as the Movies screen; other screens display your content differently, and navigating with the arrow keys doesn’t work. There is one exception: the Apps list. Here, you want to click on an app, then press the space bar to toggle between Will Install and Will Remove. (If an app is not installed, you’ll see the former when pressing the space bar; if it is installed, you’ll see the latter.)
The arrow-key navigation doesn’t work for music, but the Command-Click trick does. So if you’ve set your iOS device to only sync selected playlists, artists, albums and genres, you can select or deselect all of one of those categories by Command-clicking.
